School / English speaking art teacher

Dear Miree, I have just arrived in Jakarta and am already a fan of your blog. For the last month or so, I have been searching for a school/English-speaking art teacher who specialists in abstract art painting but to no avail. I have been painting for several years as a hobby but have recently developed a passion for abstract art. Can you ppl recommend 2-3 places which you think might meet my needs? I am staying at the Sudirman area but am prepared to travel a bit for the lessons over the weekend. Many thanks and happy hols!

LOOKING FOR A QUALITY ELECTRIC KETTLE

(Jonathan) Dear Miree, I am writing in desparation in the hope you can guide me to a store which actually sells quality electric kettles or a kettle with a strong base which can sit on a stove. I have been residing in Jogjakarta & it impossible to purchase such items. Can you please point me in the right direction. All I have found so far are stove kettles made out of inferior unhealthy materials. The sort of materials you avoid if you don't want health problems further down the road...like brain damage.

( Miree) Hi Jonathan, we can’t have you stressing out over a kettle. Not sure where you can find a really good electric one in Jogya. In Jakarta you can find them in Electronic City in Sudirman, Ace Hardware stores in Buncit Raya, & Pasaraya Grande. There are also some good imported ones currently being stocked in the main Grand Lucky super store which is situated in Kawasan Niaga Terpadu Sudirman. Regards, Miree.

(Shell) Hi Miree, First of all, thank you for the amazing service that you provide for all of us bewildered new arrivals in Jakarta. My husband and I have decided to throw a bbq in honour of Australia day, do you know of any caters who can provide all of the equipment, food, and staff to cook a good old fashioned Aussie BBQ? or even just someone who can a bbq, plates, a cook etc and we will organise meat etc.

Custom safety glass for furniture

Special treatment on arrival at airport

(Gary) Hi Ms. Miree, Perhaps you can tell me what the side channel line is for at the Arrivals Immigration station at the International Airport? The sign reads "Diplomats and Airline Crew"....but it seems as though anyone with a quid can get a specially homogenized immigration treatment. What does special treatment cost and how does it work?

(Miree) Hi Gary, Happy New Year. What you are referring to is Airport Assistance, which you can use the diplomatic queue if you hold an APEC card or you can hire for departures & arrivals. This service can consist of any thing from assistance with check-in at airline counter, Fiscal counter assistance for exemption/payments, assistance through immigration, assistance with Visa on Arrivals, assistance with collection of luggage, assistance through customs & delivery to waiting driver/hotel driver or getting a taxi. Basic cost of this service is Rp175,000 plus additional for early flight departures & arrivals, porter fees & a Visa on Arrival.
